Celebrating Fall

In late spring I planted a single cosmos plant in my front garden. By mid summer it was spent. I collected the dried flower heads and stowed them for later. I noticed this volunteer, the result of a single seed finding its way into the soil below, coming up in early September. Bigger and more beautiful than the original plant, it is a powerful example of rebirth.
