Pick your country, and you'll find glorious examples of art made by ordinary folks like you and I. And speaking of embroidery (which I was recently, posting examples of colcha embroidery, unique to the Hispanic communities of Northern New Mexico and also Southern Colorado), from India we get some amazingly beautiful repurposed quilts called kantha. The word literally means “patched cloth,” and refers to both the tradition of producing these unique, quilted blankets—making something useful and beautiful out of discarded items—as well as the craft and stitch itself, a small, straight running stitch in Bengali embroidery.
